Irene Calderón (b. 1990, San José, Costa Rica)

Calderón expresses her artistic vision through the timeless medium of oil painting, channeling a deep exploration of the human form. With a focused emphasis on the female body, she masterfully manipulates light and shadow to evoke both the strength and vulnerability inherent in her subjects.

In her portraits, she seeks to capture more than just the physical likeness of her figures—she strives to reveal a part of the soul of the subject. Her delicate interplay of light and shadow imbues her subjects with a profound sense of depth, presence, and emotion, conveying the tangible and intangible qualities of the human spirit.

More recently, Calderón has embarked on an artistic exploration centered on water, depicting women submerged beneath its surface. In these works, she investigates the symbolism of water in relation to the female form, using fragmented, fluid compositions to delve into themes of transformation, introspection, and the cyclical nature of change. Through these immersive aquatic realms, Calderón explores the fluidity of identity and the continuous evolution of the self.
